Independant Sci-fi & fantasy filmmaking
An independent film is generally considered as a professional film production which results in a feature film that has been produced mostly or completely outside of the major film studio system. In addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies, independent films are also produced and sometimes distributed by subsidiaries of major film studios. However, with the advent of YouTube there has been an increasing number of short films made by amateur and semi professional filmmakers which we have decided to include in this category.
Independent films are sometimes distinguishable by their content and style and the way in which the filmmaker’s personal artistic vision is realised. They are mostly made with a considerably lower budget than you would expect from a major film production company.
The Gift

Tears of Steel
‘Tears of Steel’ was realised with crowd-funding by users of the open source 3D creation tool Blender. The goal was to improve and test a complete open and free pipeline for visual effects in film, and to make a compelling sci-fi film in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
